Field Day on Vegetable Crop Technologies at Cherambane village of Madikeri Taluk
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Gonikoppal organized a Field day on Vegetable crop technologies at Cherambane village of Madikeri Taluk, Kodagu district on 11th April, 2017. The field day was conducted in the field of Shri K.L. Rajiv. He had cultivated Yard long bean variety (Arka Mangala), Cow pea (Arka Garima), Ridge gourd (Pvt variety) in a 2 acre plot. In initial stages he had applied Arka Microbial consortia through drenching to the plants. IIHR Vegetable spray was given two times. In addition he had put up fruit fly traps for control of fruit flies in ridge gourd. All technical support right from selection of crop, seed material ,field establishment, till harvesting were extended by KVK technical personnel through their periodic visits. KVK supported 10 vegetable growers in Cherambane cluster of Madikeri taluk. The field day focussed on the adoption of new crop, variety, initial care, micro nutrient foliar nutrition, staking and right time of harvesting of crop. All precautions were taken for good germination, crop stand, pest and disease control under the guidance of KVK team. The healthy produce is fetchi him a price of Rs. 30-40 per kg (for yard long bean) in the local and adjoining Kerala market. Earlier Mr. Rajeev, K.L. had attended training programme on vegetable cultivation at KVK, Field day organized at KVK Farm, and Field day on vegetables at IIHR, Bengaluru. This had given him good confidence and he has shown success in the first attempt itself. Dr. Saju George, Mr. K.A. Devaiah, Mr. Prabhakar, B., Mr. Veerendra Kumar, K.V of KVK, Gonikoppal, Mr. Vasanth, Asstt. Horticulture officer, Department of Horticulture, members of Bhagandeswara FPO, 30 vegetable growers were present in the field day. Earlier the programme was inaugurated by Dr. Saju George, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Gonikoppal. He addressed the gathered participants about the importance of vegetable cultivation and its nutritive value. The famers Mr Rajeev and Mr. Bhavan shared their experiences in vegetable cultivation.
