Food Safety Referral Laboratory Inaugurated at ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore
A state of art Food Safety Referral Laboratory for testing contaminants in food, especially in horticultural produce has been recently established at ICAR-IIHR. The laboratory was inaugurated by Honourable Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension and Additional Incharge Horticultural Sciences), ICAR, Dr. A. K. Singh in presence of Assistant Director General (Hort. Sci.), Dr. W.S. Dhillon and Assistant Director General (Hort. Sci.), Dr. T. Janakiram on 8th January, 2017. Dr. Vishal Nath, Director, ICAR- NRCL, Muzaffarpur, Bihar was also a guest of honour. The laboratory has been established with support from ICAR. Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, welcomed the dignitaries and accompanied them around the laboratory. Drs. Debi Sharma, K. K. Upreti, L.R. Varalakshmi, K.Ranjitha, H.S. Oberoi and Soudamini Mohapatra explained about the facilities created in detail. The Laboratory is an ultra modern facility created for analysis of customer samples for, pesticide residues, heavy metals, mycotoxins, microbial pathogens, non-permitted dyes and other contaminants in food. DDG (Hort. Sci.) appreciated the overall design of the laboratory. He remarked that the laboratory will be very useful for ensuring food safety for all stakeholders and congratulated Dr. M.R. Dinesh for the same. Dr. W.S. Dhillon, ADG (Hort. Sci) gave his inputs for improving the functioning of the laboratory in future. Dr. T. Janakiram, ADG (Hort. Sci) also appreciated the effort put in by all concerned for creating such a facility.
