ICAR-IIHR organized a four-day special training programme was organized on "Business opportunities in Horticulture” for the agri/hortipreneurs of Agriclinics and Agribusiness Centres (ACABC) scheme representing Maharashtra and Karnataka during October 18-22, 2016. This programme was sponsored by the MANAGE, Hyderabad.
The participants are engaged in various farm-based business activities including cultivation of horticultural crops. The resource persons facilitated the participants to acquire the knowledge, skill and to understand and appreciate the advanced horticultural technologies in quality vegetable seedling/planting material production, crop production/management; integrated practices in water, nutrient, pest and disease management, post harvest management techniques and soil less cultivation in vegetable and ornamental crops. Most of the presentations in the class were coupled with field visits and practical classes for the benefit of the participants. The participants also visited model nurseries, poly houses and commercial protected cultivation units and seedling nurseries etc. as part of their training programme to understand real farm situations and to get first-hand exposure and information on protected cultivation of high-value vegetable and ornamental crops. The trainees opined that they were sensitized towards various avenues and opportunities for their business expansion through ICAR-IIHR technologies. They also requested ICAR-IIHR to arrange need-based intensive training on specific technology clusters. The programme was coordinated by Dr Nita Khandekar and Dr Sudha Mysore.
