ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, organized a special training programme on “Improved Crop Management Practices for Higher Productivity, Quality and Safe Production of Horticultural Crops” from 31st October to 4th November, 2017 for the Subject Matter Specialists (SMS) of KVKs and progressive farmers/ farm women of Assam and NEH states. This programme was sponsored under TSP-NEH programme.There were 19 participants from Assam and NEH states representing Manipur (8), Meghalaya (4), Mizoram (2), Nagaland (3), Tripura (2) states, of which 10 are SMSs of KVKs and the rest 9 are progressive farmers. The participants were keen on learning the advanced technologies and make it useful to adopt them in their respective fields/KVKs. There were presentations on various topics with intensive discussion on quality vegetable seedling production, crop production/ management; integrated practices in water, nutrient, pest and disease management, post-harvest management techniques and soil health management in fruit, vegetable and ornamental crops. Most of the presentations in the class were coupled with field visits and practical classes. This programme was coordinated by Dr. B. Balakrishna and Mr. G. A. Atheequlla.
