Venue: IIHR, Bengaluru 02/07/2016
Time is ripe to concentrate and direct research on non-chemical methods of Integrated Pest Management like use of pest resistant varieties, Genetically Modified Crops, Male sterile technique, Biological Control, Cultural, Mechanical and Physical methods, Push-pull strategies, Insect growth regulators and Semio-chemicals. These methods are already being attempted by entomologists in India and other tropical countries. However, there is an urgent need for effective and safer alternatives in view of climate change, abiotic and biotic stresses, environmental contamination and growing human population world over. The socio-economic conditions of growers in marginal and degraded landscapes is also a great concern. The landscape of Insect Science is rapidly changing. Some of the new challenges for entomologists include bio-terrorism, Invasive species, Vectors, health of Pollinators, Insects as food and Change in status of Pests. In this connection, Department of Entomology & Nematology in association with AAPMHE, IIHR, Bengaluru is organizing a National interactive meet on New Challenges in Pest Management on 2nd July 2016 at IIHR, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru.
