Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar organised Swachhta Pakhwada (16-31 Dec 2018)
Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar organised various programmes during the Swachhta Pakhwada during 16 to 31 December, 2018 as per the ICAR Office memorandum. During the pakhwada daily activities on cleaning of various portions of the campus like crop cafeteria drainage channels and chambers, area in front of main gate of the Station adjacent roads to the national highway, office premises, boundary side cleaning near rainfed area, and organic area, farm roads in rainfed area of the station, were taken up on different days. On 22nd December a drawing competition on a topic “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” was organised in the Mumtaj Ali High School in Jadupur area near the Station. Around 20 students participated in the competition.
A cleanliness drive was also organised in the school campus in which the students and teachers joined with the Staff of CHES to clean the premises and dispose the waste. The students were made aware about the type of wastes generated in the daily chores and how to segregate and dispose them.
On 23 December Kisan Diwas was observed in the Station. Distinguished guests enlightened the participants on various aspects of cleanliness in farmers’ perspective. Further, seven progressive farmers were felicitated for their achievements by adopting IIHR technologies. Farmers from villages adopted under Mera Gaon Mera Gourav were appreciated for their efforts in reducing open defecation n their villages and promoting plantations. On 30th December a rally of cleanliness was organised in Barakera village of Delang Block of Puri district.
The rally with around 80 school children moved in different parts of the village with sloganeering on cleanliness messages pertaining to personal hygiene, rejecting open defecation, and planting trees.
A debate completion on a topic “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” was organised in the Barakera Government Upper Primary School wherein 22 students participated and put forth the facts and figures on nationwide cleanliness campaign. The winners were given prizes. The programme at the village was coordinated by Dr. P. Srinivas, Sri. Singray Majhi and Sri Manoj Pattanaik with help of the teachers and other villagers. On 31st December the plenary session was organised in the Station.
Dr. B.B. Samanta, International Consultant UNISF (WASH programme) and Sri Narsingh Panigrahi, SGRC participated in the programme. Dr. B.B. Samanta gave talk on his international and national experiences on seven point programme on water supply and sanitation and hygiene.
Sri Narsingh Panigrahi gave a talk of management of plastic waste management and explained about the common precautions that can be taken at individual level to reduce, reuse and recycle the solid waste.
The Chief Guest and the head of the Station Dr. G. C. Acharya gave away the prizes to the winners of the painting competition held at Mumtaj Ali High School. Sri Singray Majhi, Technical officer proposed the vote of thanks while Dr. P. Srinivas, Principal Scientist coordinated the programme.
The organisation of various activities and programmes under Swachhta Pakhwada during 16 to 31 December, 2018 was coordinated by Sri Singray Majhi, Technical officer and Incharge Swachch Bharat Activities at the station, with the active help of Sri Manoj Pattanaik and Sri Gobind Naik and other staff, trainees and outsourcing personnel of the Station.
