Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar organized three days hands on training on Gardening Techniques jointly with Plant Lovers’ Association, Bhubaneswar during 28th - 30th March, 2019. The training programme was inaugurated by Prof. P.C. Lenka, Ex- Head, Department of fruit crops, Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology in the presence of Guest of honour Sri Khirod Pattnaik, President, Plant Lovers’Association. Dr. G.C. Acharya, Head I/c extended a warm welcome to guests and participants and briefed about the research activities of the station. In inaugural address, Dr. Lenka highlighted importance of gardening and its scope as entrepreneurship. Dr. P. Srinivas, Principal scientist and In-charge, TOT highlighted about extension activities of CHES for development of horticulture in the state and objective of the training programme. Speaking at the inaugural function, Sri Khirod Pattnaik emphasised on the various skills which need to be imparted in trained gardeners. A total of 25 trainees from various parts of Odisha got enrolled in this training programme. Lectures and practical on plant propagation methods, soil media preparation, organic fertilizer and pesticide preparation, roof top gardening, Orchid cultivation, indoor gardening, nursery management, organic farming etc were organized during the programme,. During the valedictory function held on 30th March, 2019, Chief guest Dr. B. B. Samanta, Guest of honour Sri. Khirod Pattnaik and Head of the station Dr. G.C. Acharya presented certificate and garden tool kit to the trainees. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Meenu Kumari, Scientist, Sri S. Majhi, Technical Officer and Dr. P. Srinivas, Principal Scientist, CHES, Bhubaneswar.
