CHES, ICAR-IIHR, Chettalli organized orientation programme of identified tribal villages of BR Hills under TSP 2016-2017 on 20.07.2016

Under Tribal sub plan project, CHES Chettalli conducted an orientation programme for identified tribal villages (Hosapodu colony, Muthugadagadde, Yarakana gadde and Bungle podu) at B R Hills  comes under the Yalandur taluk of Chamarajanagara district on 20-7-2016. The programme was arranged in the campus of Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra (VGKK), Biligiri Rangana betta (BR Hills).The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of  Dr. R. Senthil Kumar Principal Scientist & Head (i/c), Chettalli. He welcomed the chief guest Smt. Sumathi Suresh, President of Gramapanchayath, B R Hills and other guests including Mr. Cheluvadhi Rangegowda, President, Soliga Abhinidhi Society of Yalandur Taluk, Dr. Arun Kumar,VGKK, Sri. Siddegowda, Shri. Hanumegowda, Cheluvadi Jadegowda and Bangi Kethegowda, tribal leaders of nearby villages, tribal beneficiaries of four villages, staff of VGKK and CHES. He also gave a brief introduction about the TSP programme under Government of India by supplying fruit plants, vegetable seeds and other agricultural inputs which helps to improve their financial and nutritional status. Dr.V.Sankar, Principal Scientist (Hort.), CHES, Chettalli explained about the objective of the TSP programme and importance of vegetable cultivation for their nutritional security. Dr.H.P.Sumangala, Scientist, Division of Ornamental crops, IIHR Bangalore explained about the importance and conservation of indigenous flower crops available at BR Hills and nursery production of various ornamental crops. Smt. P B Swathy, Technical officer spoken about various activities agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry activities to be under taken at BR Hills under TSP. During the occasion, different groups (Mushroom, Bee keeping, Vegetable cultivation, Fruit plants cultivation, Spices cultivation, Nursery production) were made for importing  training  and each group consisting of 15 to 20 tribal beneficiaries. At the end of programme, vegetable seed kit was distributed to all the tribal beneficiaries participated in the programme. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Mr Putta Renge Gowda, Member of VGKK and Secretary of BR Hills Soligas Tribes, BR Hills. This programme was attended by more than 200 tribal people of BR Hills.
