A day-long training was organized for Thiruvallur district farmers of Tamil Nadu
A day-long training program on ICAR-IIHR technologies to the farmers of Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu was organized on 06.08.2018 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR), Bangalore. The objective of the programme was to impart training on advances in ICAR-IIHR technologies of various horticultural crops and improved vegetable/fruits varieties/hybrids, so that such technologies may be disseminated for adoption by farmers of Thirvallur.
The programme was started with welcome address by Dr R. Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Social Sciences and Training IIHR emphasized the objective of the training programme and further he conveyed to the farmers that ICAR-IIHR will be associated with farmers for transfer of latest information and technologies to double their income. Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientist delivered a lecture on improved vegetable varieties and technologies developed by IIHR. Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist elaborated about fruit crop technologies. Dr K. S.Bhuvaneswari and Mr K.Reddeppa highlighted the Post harvest technologies of different fruit and vegetable crops developed by ICAR-IIHR. The farmers expressed their views, doubts and queries related to vegetables, fruits and post harvest aspects and doubts were cleared by scientists. At the end of training programme, farmers were taken to vegetable, flower and fruits demonstration blocks, vegetable seed unit and Post harvest lab etc. The farmers were very much satisfied with the programme and opined that have got exposed to various scientific management practices to implement in actual farm situation. This programme was coordinated by Dr V Sankar, Principal Scientist, and Dr.R.Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
