ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru celebrates “International Women’s Day 8th March 2019
The programme commenced with the ICAR song, welcome address by Dr. G. Senthil Kumaran, Nodal Officer, Sports and Staff Welfare Committee and felicitation of the guest by Director, Dr. M.R. Dinesh.
The Program highlight was live telecast of the speech of the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji’s which was watched by the staff of the Institute in its entireity.
Chief Guest, Mrs. Lakshmi D Raju, Project Coordinator KWDP-II, Sujala- III, Dept. of Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka spoke about contribution of, and progress made by women in all fields, using comparisons with ancient Indian Mythological Characters who had influenced the lives of their husbands, children and society because of their inner strength and character , and their struggles to overcome preconceptions regarding women . She used examples from mythological stories to emphasise upon women’s empowerment.
Dr. Madhavi Reddy, Nodal Officer of the Internal Complaints Committee and Women’s Cell, addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of empowering women and the ability of employed women in balancing work and home.
This was followed by brief remarks by Director, ICAR-IIHR, Dr. M.R. Dinesh who emphasized the inner strength of under -privileged women when faced with hardships, their contribution to the society in general, and agriculture sector in particular, with rural women constituting the backbone of their family and community.
The function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mandakranta Bhattacharya, Medical Officer, Member of Staff Welfare Committee & Member-Secretary, I.C.C. (Women’s Cell.)
