ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru organized 7th Field day on Improved Vegetable Varieties/ F1 hybrid and Production Technologies on 21-9-2016
Seventh Field day on Improved Vegetable Varieties/ F1 hybrids and Production Technologies was organized at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru on 21-09-2016. A total of 63 vegetable varieties including 11 F1 hybrids in 21 vegetable crops were raised for demonstration in vegetable demo block.

About 300 participants including farmers from nearby villages, MGMG villages & Tumukur (KVK, Hirehalli), KVK staff (Hirehalli and Gonikoppal), Heads of Divisions of Plant Pathology, Post-Harvest Technology and Agricultural Engineering, Ornamental and Medicinal crops, Plant Physiology, Entomology and Nematology, Social Sciences & Training and Scientists from different desciplines of ICAR-IIHR, Technical staff of Vegetable Division, Chairperson (ITMU), Research Associates, Senior Research Fellows and PhD students from ICAR-IIHR participated in the field day programme.

Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, the chief Guest of field day programme inaugurated the Vegetable field day and visited exhibits of ICAR-IIHR bred vegetable varieties/F1 hybrids and all the demo plots. Director appreciated the efforts made by all the staff of Division of Vegetable Crops for their achievements in developing high yielding disease resistant varieties & F1 hybrids. He also suggested to the Head, Social Sciences & Training & KVK, Hirehalli to take up such field demos in large number of locations in order to disseminate ICAR-IIHR technologies.
On visiting all the demo plots of vegetable crops, all the farmers expressed that it was a wonderful experience to participate in the field day programme and majority of the vegetable varieties/F1 hybrids were worth adopting to improve their financial conditions.

A farmer-Scientist’s interactive meeting was also organized in the Auditorium after the field visit. While welcoming the gathering the Head, Division of Vegetable Crops emphasized the aim of Vegetable field demonstration. Technical bulletins on tomato, chilli, brinjal, okra & vegetable Amaranth were released by the Director and he also expressed that participants should convey to fellow farmers to make good use of ICAR-IIHR technologies. Queries raised by the farmers were clarified by the concerned scientists in the interactive meeting. Dr B Narayanaswamy, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training moderated the programme. Dr. Shankar Hebbar compeered field day programme and also proposed the vote of thanks
