
The ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR), Bengaluru celebrated 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025 in office premises. The event commenced with a warm welcome to the Director of ICAR-IIHR, followed by a security guard escort to the flag-hoisting ceremony. This was followed by a mass singing and a March-past by school children, accompanied by a band and security guards of the institute.
The staff members of the institute spoke on the significance of Republic Day, emphasizing that it is not only a celebration of India’s past achievements but also a reminder of the responsibilities that each citizen carries in upholding the values of democracy, unity, and secularism. Republic Day is a moment to reflect on the progress the nation has made and to renew our commitment to building a brighter future for the generations to come. The sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and the framers of the Constitution continue to inspire us to work toward a united, strong, and prosperous India. The day encourages every citizen, especially the youth, to contribute to the nation’s growth while upholding the ideals of justice, liberty, and equality.
Dr. T.K. Behera, Director, ICAR-IIHR, addressed the gathering highlighting the importance of the Indian Constitution as the backbone of our democracy. He expressed that it ensures justice, equality, and rights for every citizen. Republic Day, celebrated annually on January 26, commemorates the day in 1950 when the Indian Constitution came into effect, transforming India into a republic. This day marks the birth of India’s democratic governance, where the people became the true rulers of their country, governed by their own Constitution. The event was celebrated with pride and joy across the nation, with various activities and ceremonies that reflect India’s rich culture, history, and progress.
The celebration was organized by Mr. T. Viswanathan, Senior Administrative Officer and Nodal Officer, Security, and was supported by the security team, including Mr. S.M.A. Ahmed, Assistant Administrative Officer and Member Secretary, Security, Mr. N. Muniraju, and Mr. B. Mallesh. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. S.M.A. Ahmed, Assistant Administrative Officer and Member Secretary, Security.
