ICAR-IIHR - MAHILA KISAN DIVAS – 2018

ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research has organized MAHILA KISAN DIVAS – 2018 on October 15th, 2018.Women farmers, Institute's women labours and staff attended the program. The program started with ICAR song, welcome address with the information on the relevance of celebrating 'MahilaKisan Divas' and its importance. Dr. Geetha M. Yankanchi, Scientist, GKVK, Bengaluru delivered guest lecture on the topic "Nutrition and Health of Farm Women" and explained about the status of health of farm women, malnutrition, and stressed the need for adopting balanced food in farm women's diet.  Dr. Sukhada Mohandas, Retired Head, Division of Bio Technology ICAR-IIHR and Managing Director,  SM Plant Production Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluruwas the chief guest of the program and she spoke about the need for farm women empowerment and showed the ways to achieve throughagriculture and allied activities.

Mrs. Chennamma, Progressive farmer from Antralli village Dodddaballapur (Tq), Mrs. Gowramma, Pemanagalli village, Udigere (Hobli), Tumkur (T) and Mrs. H.V. Chandrakala, HessaraghattaHobliwho had major role in their farm in successfully adopting IIHR varieties and technologies were felicitated during the function. Various competitions like extempore, essay writing on the topic related to women empowerment, role of women in agriculture, horticulture, livestock, fisheries, poultry etc.were conducted forthe institute staffs and students.  A quiz competition especially for women labourers of the Institute was also conducted and prize for all thecompetitions were distributed during the function. In his presidential speech, Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR emphasized about the role of women played in our history, culture and crop production and the contribution of women in agriculture in the current scenario. He also explained about the various government programs for women empowerment. The program ended with vote of thanks and ‘National Anthem’.
