ICAR-IIHR Organized a Special Training on “Improved Horticultural Technologies” for watershed farmers of Karnataka from August 31st to September 3rd, 2016 for the farmers of watershed areas of Chamarajanagar and Yadgir district at IIHR, Bengaluru. This programme was sponsored by the Sujala-III, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka. There were 24 participants from Chamarajanagar and Yadgir districts of Karnataka. The resource persons assisted the participants to acquire the knowledge, skill and to understand the latest techniques in quality vegetable seedling/planting material production, crop production/management, integrated practices in water, nutrient, pest and disease management, post harvest management techniques and soil less cultivation in vegetable and ornamental crops. Most of the presentations in the class were coupled with field visits and practical classes for the benefit of the participants. The participants also visited model nurseries, poly houses and commercial protected cultivation units and seedling nurseries etc. as part of their training programme to understand real farm situations and to get first hand exposure and information on protected cultivation of high value vegetable and ornamental crops. The trainees were very much satisfied with the programme and opined that have learnt good agriculture practices pertaining to improved horticultural technologies to implement in their situations.
