ICAR-IIHR organized special training programme on “Advances in flower crops technologies” for the Horticulture officials of Haryana State.

A special training programme for three days (23 -25 November, 2021) on “Advances in flower crops technologies including seed production “ for Horticulture Department officials of Haryana Government  was organized by ICAR-IIHR, Bengalore. This programme was sponsored by Department of Horticulture, Government of Haryana.The programme was started with  ICAR Song followed by IIHR Jingle. Dr.R.Venkattakumar, Head (i/c) and Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR. Bengalore welcomed the participants  and   explained about objective  of  the training and ICAR-IIHR flower crop technologies for doubling the farmers income.

Dr.B.N.S.Murthy, Director, ICAR-IIHR interacted with the participants and laid emphasis on developing entrepreneurship through various ICAR-IIHR technologies and requested for laying out of demonstration of latest ICAR-IIHR technologies which are suitable for  Haryana State. During the training period, the scientists imparted training on various flower crops technologies including recent varieties/hybrids in various flower crops, improved production technologies, micro irrigation, fertigation, INM,IPM and IDM etc.  The participants were also enlightened on Protected cultivation of flower crops including nematode management, flower crops seed production, value addition, commercial technologies of ICAR-IIHR and marketing.

The lectures were interspersed with field visits to demonstration blocks, nursery, visit to ATIC, vegetable seed unit and various units of the institute. Further, the officials were also facilitated to visit to Centre of Excellence in Cut Flowers (Indo-Israel Project), Horticulture Research and Training Centre (HR&TC), Thally under Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops, Krishnagiri District of Tamil Nadu. There was a feedback session and post evaluation examination for the participants at the end. The participants expressed their satisfaction about conduct of the training and opined that the programme was very much useful in updating their knowledge pertaining to advances in various flower crops technologies which will be useful for their own state. Moreover, ICAR-IIHR distributed training materials like Hand book on flower crops cultivation, Leaflet on Roses, Integrated Nutrient Management in Different Horticultural Crops, Compendium on Protected Cultivation, Special volume of Indian Horticulture and E- manual on Advances in flower crops technologies including seed production to all the participants. At the end of session, participants interacted with the scientists and asked various questions/doubts and got detailed explanations. This training programme was coordinated by Dr.V. Sankar, Principal Scientist, Dr R. Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and Head (i/c), Division of Social Science and Training and Dr.Usha Bharathi, Scientist from Division of Flower Crops and Medicinal Plants, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
