ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) is a premiere nodal institute for research and education in Horticulture. ICAR-IIHR was established in September 1967 and is celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2017. ICAR-IIHR is an institute under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.  The Institute is located 25 km from city railway station and 40 kms from Kempegowda International airport.  ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru is mainly responsible for research, education and extension on different aspects of horticultural crops, viz., fruits, vegetables, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants including mushroom. The Institute has developed several varieties of fruits, vegetables and flowers that have found favours with the farmers across the country.  Division of Post Harvest Technology and Agricultural Engineering at ICAR-IIHR has developed machinery for field and post harvest operations of horticultural commodities, and also several technologies for post harvest handling, processing and value addition to important horticultural crops.  Many prototypes and technologies developed by the division have been disseminated to the stakeholders (farmers, entrepreneurs and industry).  Design of the prototypes for pre- and post-harvest operations has been licensed to machinery manufacturers who have multiplied such machinery and commercialized it for the use of farmers and food processing industry. Similarly, technologies like crushed tomatoes, osmotically dehydrated fruits and vegetables, raw mango slice preservation, dry flower technology, etc have been immensely popular among the entrepreneurs and industry.  There is a huge potential of taking up these machinery and technologies to the consumers/ end users with the cooperation from Agricultural machinery manufacturers, Food Processing Industry and budding entrepreneurs.  Industry- Institute collaboration will help in both forward and backward linkages through assuring farmers in getting the right remuneration for their produce, thereby alleviating post harvest losses and also through making a wide variety of wholesome and nutritious food products available to the consumer. However, there is a huge gap between the Industrial needs in terms of technology development and the research undertaken by the public R&D organizations. It is extremely important to understand the technologies/ products needed by the Industry through effective linkages with the raw material producers, which in a way would help Industry in realizing their corporate social responsibility goals. With this in the backdrop and keeping in line with the Honourable Prime Minister's dream of 'Start-up India', 'Skill India' and 'Make in India', an Institute-Industry meet is being organized with the   following objectives:

  • To conduct market driven research in PPP mode so as to bridge the gap between the Industrial needs and research being undertaken by the research organizations
  • To show case the machinery and post harvest technologies developed at           ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru
  • To create a platform for different private companies to come together and forge a relationship which will be mutually rewarding for them.
  • To connect entrepreneurs and small industries to large corporate firms by serving as feeders for quality raw material/ semi processed products.
  • To motivate the start-ups in mechanization and processing of horticultural commodities
  • To suggest / recommend the need of the machinery manufacturers and Food Processing Industry to the policy makers in the country
