ICAR-IIHR Organized a Special Online Training for the Farmers of ATMA, Pakur, Jharkhand on Horticulture Production Technologies

A Special Online Training Programme for the Farmers of ATMA, Pakur, Jharkhand on “Horticulture Production Technologies of ICAR-IIHR” was conducted at ICAR – IIHR, Bengaluru from January 11th to 13th, 2022. The main objective of the programme was to facilitate farmers through awareness creation and capacity building on various horticulture production technologies of ICAR-IIHR. This programme was inaugurated by Dr. B.N.S. Murthy, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru. The programme started with ICAR Song followed by IIHR Jingle. Dr. V.K.J Rao, Head (i/c) and Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, welcomed all the dignitaries and participants. Dr. Ramya H. R, Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR explained about objective of the training and importance of ICAR-IIHR technologies for increasing the farmer’s income.

Shri Munendar Das, Project Director, ATMA, Pakur, Jharkhand, the Guest of honour of the training programme enlightened the gathering on importance and scope of horticulture technologies in Jharkhand State and horticulture technologies of ICAR-IIHR will certainly help in bringing development in farming community of Jharkhand farmers. He also stressed on the need for training and capacity building for production of quality horticulture produce at farmers’ level. In his presidential remarks Dr. B.N.S. Murthy, Director, IIHR, Bengaluru motivated the farmers for effective utilization and dissemination of IIHR technologies through ATMA, Pakur with supportive network between IIHR Scientists. Finally vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR.

During the three-day online training programme, 13 technical sessions were organized covering all ICAR-IIHR technologies including fruits, vegetables, flowers, medicinal plants, post-harvest management and processing, mushroom production, farm mechanization, pest and diseases management and biofertilizers and micro-nutrient management in various horticultural crops. A total of fifty farmers actively participated in training from ATMA, Pakur district of Jharkhand. At the end of each session, participants interacted with the scientists and asked various queries and got detailed explanations.

On 12/01/2022, honorable Secretary, Shri. Aboobacker Siddique P, IAS, Department of Agriculture, Animal husbandry & Co-operative, Jharkhand State, visited ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and interacted with all the participants of the training in online mode along with Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and training coordinators and created awareness among the participants on the various Govt. schemes available for the benefit of farmers in case of horticulture crops like MIDH Scheme, irrigation facilities like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayi yojana (PMKSY), farm mechanization facilities like Custom hiring centers, soil conservation facilities such as deep boring, farm ponds, pump sets etc., post-harvest management facilities and rural infrastructure schemes available for the farmers of Jharkhand State.

On 13/01/2022 the valedictory programme was conducted at 2:30pm to 3:30 pm which was presided by Dr. B.N.S. Murthy, Director, IIHR, Bengaluru and Guest of honour was Shri Munendar Das, Project Director, ATMA, Pakur, Jharkhand. Feedbacks from participants were recorded. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. H.R. Ramya, Scientist, Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientist, Dr. V. K.J. Rao and Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist from Division of Social Science and Training, IIHR, Bengaluru.
