Central Horticultural Experiment Station, CHES, ICAR-IIHR organized a training programme on “Use of improved technologies in horticultural crops for enhancing farm productivity and profitability” under Farmer FIRST programme

A one-day training programme was organized on “Use of improved technologies in horticultural crops for enhancing farm productivity and profitability” under Farmer FIRST programme being implemented by ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack.  The training was organized in Biswanathpur village of Cuttack district, where around 80 farmers and farmwomen from adopted village of Satyabhamapur, Biswanathpur, Ganeswarpur and Laxminarayanpur were partcipated. Dr S K Mishra,PS, ICAR-NRRI and PI, Farmer FIRST programme welcomed the gathering and provide a brief detail of the programme. He also highlighted the benefits of the programme for the enhancement of farm productivity. Due to technological interventions like improved varieties of field crops, fruit and vegetable crops, poultry, mushoroom etc, honey bee boxes, vermicomposting etc, the farmers of the adopted village got high return, he informed.

Dr G C Acharya, PS, CHES, ICAR-IIHR and Co-PI, Farmers FIRST programme stressed upon the intercropping and mixed cropping system for enhancement of soci-economic status of the farming community. He made a brief account on the scientific practices of Nursery management, use of grafting technology in the vegetables, proper crop management practices etc for increasing production and productivity of horticultural crops. He also emphasized the importance of horticultural crops for maintaining human health. Dr B S Satapathy, PS, ICAR-NRRI spoke on natural farming, organic farming and the maintenance of soil health and productivity. The programme was ended with distribution of seedlings/ planting materials provided by Central Horticultural Experiment Station, ICAR-IIHR.
