Ninth session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on “Plant Genetic Resources for Food & Agriculture (Plant Treaty)” was held from 19th to 23rd Sept, 2022, at New Delhi. Over 500 delegates representing about 150 member countries of United Nations attended the event, which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India, Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar. The Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR, Director General, FAO, United Nations, Rome, and the Organising Secretary of the Treaty also graced the occasion.
ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, participated in the exhibition conducted on the side-lines of the session and displayed selected important technologies along with the live samples of indigenous fruits and vegetables which attracted a lot of visitors. Several delegates, bureaucrats, policy makers, progressive farmers, entrepreneurs, and students visited the stall and expressed great interest and appreciation towards the technologies. The stall put up by ICAR-IIHR served as a link between farmers and the farming industry and provided visitors update on latest horticulture technologies. This programme was coordinated by Dr. R. Senthil Kumar and Dr V. Sankar, Principal Scientists of Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.
