Dr. P. C. Tripathi Obtained his graduation and post graduation from GBPUA&T, Pantnagar (UP). He worked at Dayanand College, Ajmer (Rajasthan ) , GBPUA&T, Pantnagar (UP) , NRC oil palm, Eluru (AP), CITH, Regional Station, ,Mukteshwar (Uttarakhand), NRC for onion and garlic , Pune (Maharashtra), DRWA, Bhubaneswar (Odisha).He was worked as Head, Central Horticultural Experiment Station(IIHR), Chettalli (2010-15), Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, (IIHR), Gonikoppal ( 2011-14) and Head(IC), Division of Plant Genetic Resources, ICAR-IIHR , Bangalore (2016-19). During his research carrier, he was associated with more than 25 research projects including 10 externally funded projects. He released five varieties of fruits and identified 20 promising lines of fruits crops and develop 6 prototypes of equipments and 10 production and post- harvest technologies of mango, apple, peach, onion and garlic etc. His major achievements includes development and release four varieties of horticultural crops i.e. rambutan ( Arka Coorg Arun, Arka Coorg Peetabh), avocado (Arka Supreme), black pepper ( Arka Coorg Excel) and apple ( Lod Delicious). Identification of more than twenty promising lines of Coorg Mandarin, Pummelo, Malayan apple , Karonda, Avocado, kokum, Malabar tamarind, yellow mangosteen, apple etc.. He developed production technology of Kharif onion, drip irrigation and fertigation in onion and garlic, low temperature technique of storage of onion and garlic, techniques of regular bearing in Dashehari mango etc. He published more than 100 research papers and proceedings papers , 129 research abstracts ,55 popular articles ,40 technical bulletins, 6 books, 30 book chapters etc. He is associated with several professional societies and organized several seminars , meetings and farmers mela.
Presently he is working as Principal Scientist in the Division of Fruit crops at ICAR- Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore,.
•Developed the summer pruning technique in high density orchard of mango and standardized application time and dose of paclobutrazol for regulation of fruiting in mango in Tarai area of U.P.
•Isolated and purified the mango malformation from malformed panicle of mango and induced malformation like symptoms in mango by ethrel and paclobutrazol. Partial control the incidence of mango malformation by use of polyethylene covers and pruning.
•Identified several chance seedling in apple, Peach, walnut and other temperate fruits. Some of them namely Local Ambri,Lodh Delicious, Bauna Delicious(apple), Paradelux (Peach), W-1,W-2 (walnut) were found promising over existing cultivars.
•Standardized the nursery production techniques in onion under drip irrigation. Standardized the production techniques of kharif onion for higher production . Developed technique of direct sowing in kharif onion.
•Design, fabricated and evaluated onion seed drill for direct sowing of onion.
•Designed and evaluated several types of onion storage structures for reduction of storage losses in onion.
•Design, fabricated and evaluated manual onion grader and motorized onion grader for grading of onion.
•Standardized the cold storage combine with irradiation technique of onion for reduction of storage losses.
•Developed technology for the intercropping of sugarcane and onion & garlic under micro irrigation system.
•Standardize technology of micro irrigation and fertigation for onion & garlic. Direct sowing in onion Kharif onion production technology
