Mango diversity exhibition held at ICAR-IIHR
Three days mango diversity exhibition has been organized at ICAR-IIHR, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru, from 26-28th May, 2017. A total of 329 varieties which includes the hybrids, indigenous varieties, polyembryonic, coloured /exotic varieties, pickling (appemidi) and farmers varieties have been displayed. This exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Tejaswini Anantkumar, Managing Trustee, Adamya Chethana Foundation, Bangalore, on 26th May, 2017 and after seeing the kind of variability in mango, she has appreciated the efforts made by the institute on conservation, characterization and utilization of mango genetic resources for benefit of farmers and future generation.
Shri. Maheshwar Rao, IAS, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture, Government of Karnataka and Dr DL Maheshwar, Vice-Chancellor (VC), University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS), Bagalkot visited the mango diversity exhibition on 27.5.2016. Both the dignitaries had congratulated the Scientists for displaying an excellent variability collected from various parts of the country and abroad.This exhibition has attracted 1100 visitors from all walks of life and visitors have shown interest in knowing the variety name, place of its origin and its importance. A mango lover from Bengaluru took a keen interest and taken the photos of all the varieties displayed at ICAR-IIHR and uploaded in the internet that can be accessed at https://goo.gl/photos/8q8DXtEjwXniV7Cn9. He has also congratulated the mango researchers at ICAR-IIHR for an excellent display as well as the mango catalogue published by the institute. Mango fruits of selected varieties were sold to the visitors and some of them have shown interest on procuring the grafted plants of traditional varieties of mango.
