NATIONAL MUSHROOM DAY CELEBRATED AT ICAR-IIHR ON 23RD DEC 2018

National Mushroom day was celebrated by ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru on 23-12-2018. It has always been the Endeavour of ICAR-IIHR to address the national problems through Mushroom technology. In line with this, it was thought appropriate to standardize a mushroom and milk based health drink which could enhance the nutrition of everyday milk and which could easily be adopted in the mid-day meal and aganwadi programs of Govt. of India. The recipe for the health drink was standardized at the Mushroom Research laboratory, ICAR-IIHR, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru.  After the initial lab level sensory evaluation, the product was subjected to further sensory evaluation at Govt. Primary School. Basvanapura village, Devenahalli Taluk, Bengaluru North.  Twenty children aged 8-12 years of class 3-5 participated in the sensory evaluation test. Each student was asked to drink 30 ml of the product and numerically evaluate the product based on its taste. The following 9-Point Hedonic Scale was used for this test.

The product was well accepted by all the children. The average rating given was 9.15 out of 10 which shows that children liked the product. The nutritional composition of the drink is under investigation.
