Progressive Farmers of Kerala were Trained on Organic Production of Fruits and Vegetables
Twenty five farmers from Kerala State were imparted five-day training on ‘Organic Production Technologies of Vegetable and Fruit crops’ from 27th- 31st Jan 2015. The programme was organized by the Division of Extension and Training, ICAR-IIHR under the sponsorship of Kerala State Horticulral Mission.
The participants were progressive farmers from five Southern Districts of Kerala. They were imparted Knowledge and skills on advanced organic production technologies apart from fruit and vegetable crop scenario, keeping in view of the growing conditions of Kerala. The programme was dealt through lecture cum interactions, specific visits to the fields and demonstration blocks, laboratories, model nurseries of private entrepreneurs, seed processing unit, laboratories of National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Insects (NBAII), Hebbal and Bio-centre of State Horticulture Department at Hulimavu. Apart from these, the participants were provided with both hard and soft copies of structured resource materials and relevant publications of the Institute.
A systematic pre and post evaluation of the participants were conducted to assess the effectiveness of training programme. The results revealed that, the training programme was significantly effective in imparting knowledge on the theme. All the trainees expressed their opinion and showed eagerness to adopt the organic production components in their back-home situations. Dr B Narayanaswamy Principal Scientist, Dr H Ravishankar Principal Scientist and Dr R Venkattakumar Principal Scientist and Head Division of Extension and Training co-ordinated the Training programme.
