Report of activities under Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2018 programme held during 23rd September to 2nd October 2018 at CHES, ICAR-IIHR Bhubaneswar
Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar carried out various programmes during second phase of Swachhata Hi Seva 2018 during 23rd to 2nd October 2018. On 23rd September awareness was created among school children and other visitors visiting Science exhibition at ILS, Bhubaneswar. On 24th September cleanliness campaign was carried out in front of the main gate of the CHES, Bhubaneswar by the Staff members.
On 25th September cleanliness campaign was carried out in the rainfed mango field along the damaged boundary wall where lot of garbage was deposited due to inflow of garbage filled rail water from neighbouring residential areas.
On 26th September cleanliness campaign was taken up by the Staff members alongside of the custard apple block of the Station.
On 27th September cleanliness campaign was taken up for cleaning the drains around the main office building and cleaning of grass in adjoining area.
On 28th September a Speech Competition was organised on the topic “Kaise banayen swachch Bharat” for the Staff, trainees and other personnel.
On 29th September wall painting event was organised. A portion of the boundary wall was cleaned and wall paintings were made to depict clean and green environment. Volunteers from Jeevan Rekha parishad, School children of Dumduma High School, staff, and other personnel participated in the event.
On 30th September a painting competition was organised for the wards of the staff of the Station to create awareness about the cleanliness among the younger generation.
On 1st October a out campus painting competition for the school children of Syed Mumtaz Ali High School, Jadupur was organised on the topic “Swachch Bharat”. More than 60 children participated in the painting competition.
Students were also made aware of the necessity of waste segregation at source at homes so as to reduce the total amount of waste going to landfills. The children were encouraged to prepare compost at home from the kitchen waste and grow plants in them.
On 2nd October valedictory programme was organised in the premises of CHES, Bhubaneswar. On the occasion Dr. G. C. Acharya, Heads of the station welcomed the guests and all participants and elaborated upon various activities organised by the Station for 15 day under Swachchta Hi Seva programme to the launch of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi and in the run up to the 4th anniversary of Swachha Bharat Mission.
Dignitaries paid homage to the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and Ex-Prime minister Sri Lal Bhahadur Shastri. Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. S.N. Pasupalak delivered an elaborate address on various aspects of cleanliness and the positive developmental and prosperity issues associated with the cleanliness.
Prizes of speech competition, painting competition for the wards of the Staff, painting competition for the School children were given away by the Chief Guest. Vote of thanks was proposed by the Swachch Bharat activities Coordinator Sri Singray Majhi, Technical officer of the Station.
The 15 days long Swachchta Hi Sewa programmes of the CHES (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar were coordinated by Sri. Singray Majhi, Technical officer with active support of Sri Manoj Pattanaik, Senior Technical Assistant and Dr. P. Srinivas, Principal Scientist.
