Training Programme on ‘Good Food Laboratory Practices’
Three day training programme on ‘Good Foood Laboratory Practices’ (26th-28th December 2018) was successfully conducted at Food Safety Referral Lab at ICAR- IIHR. The programme was organised in collaboration with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), with analysts as trainees nominated from public and private sector food analysis laboratories pan-India.
The training was inaugurated by Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, followed by technical sessions on topics such as design, accommodation and environment in a food testing laboratory, food laboratory safety, safe waste disposal requirements, calibration, sampling, method validation and verification, document and data control, interpretation of test results, measurement of uncertainty, proficiency testing, quality control checks, trend analysis, compliance in food testing and ensuring data integrity, reporting of results, etc. Practical classes were held on glassware calibration, preparation of SOPs and documentation. Besides the in-house experts, professionals like Dr. Asha Martin (CFTRI, Mysore) and Mr. Lakshmanan Rajendran (SGS India Private Ltd, Chennai) also delivered the lectures. In brief, the training programme facilitated in enabling the food labs to follow the best analytical practices to ensure domestic and international quality compliance.
