DNA BASED DIAGNOSTICS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF CITRUS ROOTSTOCKS

 

• A SCAR based multiplex-PCR assay method has been standardized for the identification and differentiation of three citrus rootstocks namely Rangpur Lime, Rough Lemon and Galgal.This assay can be used as a molecular diagnostic kit.

• It helps citrus growers to avoid the risk of using undesirable rootstocks such as Galgal that is susceptible to many diseases
• The potential is very high if concerned state govt make a mandatory for the nurseries to certify the plants for quality
• Rs 10lakhs to set up a lab with PCR, centrifuge, electrophoresis system. For  already  set up labs, the expenditure per sample will be Rs 30
