Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar organised various activities during the Swachhta Pakhwada. Dr. G.C.Acharya, Principal Scientist & Head(I/C) administered the pledge of Swachh Bharat to all the staff members. The programme was followed by the cleanliness drive in and around CHES by the staff members. The residents in the adjoining areas were advised to maintain the cleanliness in their residential premises and keep the area plastic free.
Celebration of Kisan Diwas: Kisan Diwas was celebrated on 23rd December 2019, under Swachhta Pakhwada. More than 100 participants including farmers from 2 districts of Odisha attended the day long programme. The event was addressed by Dr.G.C.Acharya, Head of the Station. Farmers from adopted villages were enlightened about the importance of observing the Kisan Diwas and significance of adopting advanced technologies for enhancing farmers’ income. Field visit to the experimental plots were organised for the benefit of the participating farmers. Four successful farmers were felicitated for their adoption and popularisation of IIHR technologies. The programme was coordinated by Dr. P.Srinivas with the active support of Dr. P. Naresh, Sri S. Majhi, Sri Abhimanyu Das, Sri Manoj Pattanaik and Sri Narottam Rout.
Cleanliness drive in Anganwadi Kendra: A cleanliness drive was organised in the campus of Aanganbadi Kendra, Patrapada, Bhubaneswar. The team from CHES cleaned the surrounding area of the school and made it usable to children. Awareness was also created among the school children to be neat and clean in their day-to-day activities
Awareness programme on Urban cleanliness: Awareness on “collection, disposal and utilization of Kitchen waste” was organised for the benefit of urban areas at Amrit Vatika, Shaheednagar, Bhubaneswar. Sri Umanath Mishra, Ex-councellor, Sri Maheswar Khiller, Sri Bijay Mohapatra & other members of Urban Kitchen association were attended the programme. A cleanliness drive was also conducted nearby areas by CHES staff & members of the association. Dr. P.Srinivas, Dr. G.Sangeetha, Sri. S.Majhi, Sri. Manoj Pattnaik, Smt. Suchitra Behera, Sri. Ashok Chandra Durga, Sri. Amarjit Patra, Sri. Asis Chakravarty associate in the programme.
Fostering healthy competition by organising quiz, essay and debate competitions in School: Quiz, essay and debate competitions were organised for school students in Government Upper Primary School, Barakera (adopted under MGMG programme), Delang in Puri district. The winners were awarded with certificates & prizes. Approximately 30 students participated in the competitions and put forward their facts and figures on Swachh Bharat.
Organisation of awareness rally and trees plantation in MGMG adopted village: Plantation programme with fruit trees like mango, bael, jamun, jackfruit, guava, anola, etc was organised in the premises of the Government Upper Primary School, Barakera. Besides an awareness rally with around 80 students, teachers & CHES staff members was organised in the village with slogans and posters on Swachh Bharat. Nukkad Dance programmes were organised at various points of the village to draw crowd and they were encouraged to keep their premises clean and reject plastic usage. The programme was highly successful with support from Head Master of school, Assistant Teacher; Sri Mitu Kishore Pradan and other staff and villagers. Well known environmentalist; Shri Biswajit Parida and local Newspaper reporters also addressed the gathering, to ensure adequate publicity and highlighting the need for concerned efforts for keeping our nation clean and green.
Felicitation and valedictory Programme: On 31st December 2019, valedictory programme was organised in CHES training hall. The Head of the station, Dr. G.C. Acharya addressed the programme and felicitated two environmentalists Sri Mitu Kishore Pradhan and Sri Biswajit Parida from Delang block of Puri district adopted under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav and appreciated their efforts on Swachh Bharat and promoting plantation.
The various activities under Swachhta Pakhwada observed during 16th-31st December, 2019 was coordinated by Sri Singray Majhi, Nodal Officer, Swachh Bharat of the station with active support from Dr. P.Srinivas, Principal Scientist, Sri Manoj Pattnaik, Smt. Suchitra Behera, Sri Ashok Chandra Durga, Shri. Gobind Naik, Sri Biswanath Paikaray and all other staff members, trainees and outsourcing personnel of the Station.
