Sports contingents of ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru had participated in ICAR-Interzonal Sports Tournament held at NDRI, Karnal from 8-09-2023 to 12-09-2023. Sports contingents comprised of eleven men and four women had participated both in individual and team events and showed outstanding performance. Based on the overall score of 53 points, ICAR-IIHR has bagged the ‘Overall championship of the ICAR-Interzonal Sports Tournament-2023’. ICAR-IIHR has bagged both South Zone championship at NAARM, Hyderabad and ICAR-Interzonal Sports Tournament held at NDRI, Karnal during the same year. For the first time ICAR-IIHR has bagged the ICAR overall championship.
Dr. G. R. Smitha is the Chief-de-Mission and Dr G A Atheequalla is the Manager of the sports tournament from ICAR-IIHR contingent. Among individual events for women, Ms. Sai Monicalakshmi bagged gold in Javelin throw, badminton singles and silver in badminton doubles. Smt. Venkatalakshmamma bagged gold in discuss throw and badminton doubles. Dr. G.R. Smitha bagged gold in badminton doubles and silver in badminton singles. Ms. Meenakshi bagged two silver medals in 100 and 200 m race events. In women’s team event, team comprising of Ms. Meenakshi, Dr. G.R. Smitha, Ms. Sai Monicalakshmi & Smt. Venkatalakshmamma bagged gold in Women’s 4x100 m Relay.
Among individual events for men, Mr. Rajanna A. and Mr. Madhu G.S. got silver medal in 400 m and shot put, respectively. Men’s team comprised of Muniraju N, Rajanna A, Mallesh B., Suresh H.S., Vinod Kumar, Rudresha A., Ramakrishna G., Hanamantharaju M., Velumurghan K. and Atheequalla G.A.
