Off-Campus Training Programmes on Scientific Cultivation of Avocado Organized by CHES, Chettalli

The CHES, Chettalli, regional station of the ICAR-IIHR had organized two off-campus training programmes on the 'Scientific Cultivation of Avocado' at Harapanahalli and Kudligi taluks in Vijayanagara district on the 20th  and 21st of May, 2024. The first training was held in avocado field of 400 plants (Mr. Pandurangappa M. in Kanahalli village, Harapanahalli taluk) established in 2019-20. The second training took place at the field of Mr. Chandrappa in Kasapura village, Kudligi taluk. The field of 1,000 avocado plants was planted in 2020. A total of 60 farmers participated in these two training programmes. The events commenced with field visits, followed by technical sessions and interactive discussions between farmers and scientists.

Dr.Muralidhara B.M., Scientist (Fruit Science), explained the importance, planting techniques, varietal wealth, and future prospects of avocado cultivation. Dr.Rajendiran S., Senior Scientist (Soil Science), discussed the significance of soil, water, and nutrient management for avocado plants. Dr. Nayan Deepak G., Scientist (Fruit Science), addressed pest and disease management in avocado cultivation. The programme also included interactive sessions with farmers to address various issues related to avocado cultivation. Additionally, literature on avocado cultivation was distributed to the farmers for their benefit.
