Farmers Awareness Programme on Climate change and its relevance in horticultural crops on 29-10-2011
A Farmers Awareness Programme was organised at Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru campus under NICRA project on Climate change and its relevance in horticultural crops on 29.10.2011 to create the large scale awareness on the climate change, its impact, relevance and importance in horticultural crops and also to discuss various climate resilient technologies in different horticultural crops. The programme was focused on making farmers more aware and adopts the technologies for reduction of the impact of climate change. More than 150 farmers, 10 media (both electronic and press) persons, about 40 members of the NICRA project, scientists from UAS, Bengaluru, NBAII etc. have participated in the programme.
As a part of the programme the following technologies were discussed by different scientist of the institute in detail, so as to make all the participating farmers to understand and adopt them on large scale:
- Varieties as an Adaptation strategy for production of fruits and vegetables crops under climate change situations.
- Adaptation technologies for production of vegetables crops under climate change situations (drip irrigation system, raised bed cultivation, water conservation techniques, organic cultivation, use of plastic mulch, fertigation system, etc.)
- Change in insect pest scenario, their impact and integrated approaches for their management in horticultural crops (details of the emerging insect pests, management strategies to be adopted, detection and management of pesticide residues etc.)
- Changes in disease scenario, their impact and integrated approaches for their management in horticultural crops
