ICAR-IIHR celebrated 74th Independence Day on 15th August 2020 in the institute premises following proper COVID-19 protocols like wearing face mask, sanitization and maintaining social distance. The programme started with flag hoisting by Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR at 9.00 a.m. followed by mass singing of National Anthem. In his Independence Day speech, Director conveyed his Independence day wishes to all the staff members and emphasized the slogan of Honorable Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi ji of an Atmanirbhar Bharath and Make in India. He urged that through Atmanirbhartha only we can achieve a new meaning of freedom where we can accomplish self independence. He appreciated that ICAR-IIHR has achieved this self independence through its varieties and technologies, revolving fund schemes, seed and planting material production and other services. The self independence achieved by the institute has made it possible to generate money and sustain itself in spite of the financial crunch aroused due to Covid-19 pandemic. He appraised that the research contributions by ICAR-IIHR has made the farmers also self reliant. He also appealed to all the staff to work with selflessness, honesty and dedication to build a strong nation. On this occasion, Dr. T.S. Aghora and Dr. Shankar Hebbar, Principal Scientists, Division of Vegetable Crops and Dr. V.K. Jayaraghavednra Rao, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training also shared their remarks on the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters in achieving our independence and conveyed their wishes to all the staff members. This was followed by a chain of patriotic song collage performance by Dr. V.K. Jayaraghavednra Rao which generated a wave of patriotism among all the staff. Dr. Shankar S. Hebbar, Nodal Officer, Farm Management Committee proposed the official vote of thanks and the celebrations ended with the distribution of breakfast to all the staff members.
