A field day on Okra (Arka Nikita F1 hybrid ) and Tomato (Arka Abhed F1 hybrid) under the Bhoosamruthi project at Gunjatti village, near Bidar on 11.02.2020 was jointly organized by ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and KVK, Bidar. The main aim of this field day was to create awareness about the okra hybrid Arka Nikita and tomato hybrid Arka Abhed. The field day was conducted in the okra and Tomato fields of Mr.Chetan Dabke at Gunjatti village. Dr.M.Pitchaimuthu and Dr.H.C.Prasanna, Principal Scientists, Division of Vegetable crops, ICAR-IIHR along with Dr.Jadav, Head of KVK, participated and had an interaction with farmers and shared good agricultural practices for successful okra and tomato cultivation. After the Interaction session, there was an interface meeting between scientists and farmers. The meeting started with a welcome by Dr.Malikarjun, Scientist, KVK, Bidar. A talk on the importance of field day and ICAR-IIHR farmer-friendly technologies was delivered by Dr.R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR Mr. Chetan Dabeke explained his experience about okra cultivation who has got an income of Rs. 3.75 lakhs per 3 acre. The ICRISAT representative briefed about Bhoosamruthi activities at Bidar district. Dr.Jadav, Head, KVK, elaborated on the importance of soil health for successful crop production and the importance of Arka vegetable special for enhancing the yield. Dr.M.Pitchimuthu and Dr.H.C.Prasanna Principal Scientists, Division of vegetable crops delivered detailed talks about growing okra and tomato and cleared various doubts raised by the farmers. Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Staff members of KVK and more than 50 progressive farmers participated in the field day.
