Millions of people need blood transfusions every year. Some may need blood during surgery, some depend on it after an accident or some need it because they have a disease that requires blood components. There is no substitute for human blood, as all transfusions use blood from a donor. Due to the fear of covid-19, voluntary blood donations have come down drastically and there’s an alarming shortage of blood in the blood banks. Hence, Sports and Staff Welfare Committee of ICAR-IIHR along with the co-ordination of Dr. C. Aswath, Head (I/c), Division of Flowers and Medicinal Crops and Dr. Mandakranta Bhattacharya, Medical Officer, ICAR-IIHR has organized a Blood Donation Camp at the Institute on 28-11-2020. Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR wholeheartedly supported and encouraged for this noble cause. A dedicated and experienced team from Bengaluru Medical Services Trust held the camp in accordance with the regulations issued by the government and CDC. All the COVID-19 guidelines and precautions were taken care during the camp. Many staff and students of the Institute enthusiastically participated in the blood donation and 71 units of blood were donated.
