A training program, to create awareness on “ICAR-IIHR technologies” for the farmers of Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu was organised under SCSP,TSP and TNRP at Kirshnagiri District Collectorate, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu on 10 April 2023.
Dr Sundar Raj, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Krishnagiri welcomed the gathering. Mr Tamil Maran, District Officer, TNRP, Krishnagiri explained about importance of this training program for Krishnagiri district farmers. Thiru Deepak Jacob, I.A.S., District Collector, Krishnagiri explained about horticulture potential of the district and availability of various farmers friendly ICAR-IIHR technologies. Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director-ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru in his presidential address emphasised on developing entrepreneurs through various ICAR-IIHR technologies and also for doubling the farmer’s income. Dr R Senthil Kumar explained about ICAR-IIHR fruit crop technologies and other commercial crop technologies. Dr S Bhuvaneswari, Principal Scientist delivered lecture on pre and post-harvest technologies for mango and tomato including processing and value addition. Dr BL Manjunath, Principal Scientist and Nodal officer (ITMU) explained about improved mango production technologies including various ICAR-IIHR developed IFS models. Dr V Sankar, Principal Scientist, briefed about ICAR-IIHR developed tomato hybrids suitable for Krishnagiri district. Dr R Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer (TSP) briefly explained about tribal sub-plan (TSP) activities.
During the program, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed between Yetram Farmer Producer Company limited, promoted by Vaazhndhu Kaattuvom Project, Krishnagiri, represented by Sujatha Saravanan, Director, and ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru represented by Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director, for ARKA Crushed Tomato Technology in the presence of Thiru Deepak Jacob, I.A.S., District Collector, Krishnagiri.
ICAR-IIHR developed products comprising micronutrients (Arka mango special) and biofertilizer (AMC) vegetable seed (Tomato) and Arka tomato crush were distributed to the all the identified beneficiaries. This programme was attended by 160 farmers and officials from KVK, Krishnagiri, Department of Horticulture and Plantation crops, Government of Tamil Nadu, Krishnagiri. The entire programme was coordinated by Dr R Senthil Kumar, Dr V Sankar, Division of Social Sciences and Training, and Dr S Bhuvaneswari, Division of Post-Harvest Technology and Agricultural Engineering, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.
