Capacity building programme and IIHR inputs distribution held at RASS –KVK, Tirupati, AP. under SCSP project of ICAR-IIHR

A Capacity building programme was conducted at RASS - Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Vanasthali, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh on 16th April 2022 under SCSP Project of ICAR-IIHR in collaboration with BESST-HORT and Division of Social Sciences and Training. Around 50 Scheduled caste farmers  were attended the training programme.

At the outset, Sri. P. S. Sudhakar, SMS (Horticulture) RASS-KVK welcomed the gathering. Dr. S. Sreenivasulu, Senior Scientist & Head, RASS-KVK delivered the welcome address and briefed about the purpose of the programme and importance of ICAR – IIHR technologies. It was followed by a brief presentation by Sri. P. S. Sudhakar, SMS (Horticulture) RASS-KVK about the successful technologies of ICAR – IIHR, demonstrated at RASS-KVK in fruits, vegetables, flowers and spice crops.

The Chief Guest, Dr. R. Nagaraju, Principal Scientist & Head, CRS, Tirupati, Dr.YSRHU delivered the presidential address and laid emphasis on adoption of ICAR – IIHR varieties and technologies for successful crop production. It was followed by technical address by Dr. R. Senthil Kumar and Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientists from Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru. They explained about the significance of IIHR varieties in fruits and vegetables suitable for that area and also about the advantages of using IIHR products like micronutrient Specials and Arka Microbial consortium for boosting crop yield. Dr. R. Umamaheswari, Senior Scientist, Division of Crop Protection, ICAR – IIHR, Bengaluru presented on the use of biopesticides for nematode management  in horticultural crops and Dr. D. Sreenivasa Reddy Senior Scientist (Entomology), CRS, Tirupathi, explained the importance of integrated pest management practices in fruits, vegetable and spice crops.

Following the technical address, inputs comprising IIHR products for  micronutrients, biofertilizer and biopesticides were distributed to 50 SC farmer beneficiaries. Dr. V. Sankar distributed micronutrinet products: Arka Banana Special and Arka Vegetable special; Dr. R. Senthilumar distributed Arka Microbial Consortium and Dr. R. Umamaheswai distributed biopesticide products viz., Trichoderma harzianum, Pseudmonas fluorescens, Paecilomyces lilacinus and Arka All Rounder products to all the farmers.

Finally, the programme ended with Vote of thanks by Sri. T. Ramu Kumar, SMS, Agrl. Extension from RASS-KVK, Vanasthali. The whole programme was coordinated by Dr.V.Sankar, Dr. R. Senthil Kumar from Division of Social Sciences and Training, and Dr. R. Umamaheswari, Division of Crop Protection, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru. The highlights of this programme were published in several newspapers in regional language, Telugu to give wide publicity.
