ICAR-IIHR celebrated Kisan Diwas (Farmer’s day) 2020 in letter and spirit. A function was arranged in the institute food court where in three farmers who adopted IIHR technologies and contributed to environmental health were felicitated. Chief Guest Dr K Narayana Gowda, Ex VC, UAS Bengaluru has appreciated the institute for organising the function. Dr Gowda also lauded the efforts of the institute in reaching the technologies to various stake holders including farmers. Institute Director Dr M R Dinesh in his presidential remarks mentioned that the institute has developed many technologies which are eco-friendly and can contribute to sustainable agriculture. Swachh Bharath Nodal officer Dr P Nandeesha mentioned that Farmer’s day is celebrated on 23rd December every year in the honour of Ex-prime Minister of India Shri. Chaudary Charan Singhji, who was an able farmer leader. The awarded farmers included Sri. Chikka Thimmareddy, who planted more than two thousand trees and taken care of the same in one of the MGMG village Adde Viswanathapura of Yelahanka taluk and thereby contributed to environmental health, another farmer Mr. Srinivasa Reddy from M R Palli, Pavagada taluk of Tumkur district has adopted Arka Microbial technology to produce disease free clean pomegranates, one more farmer Mr. Harish B M from Madappanahalli village of Bangalore North has demonstrated the Arka Neem seed pellet technology in cauliflower for producing residue free product. Institute Media Nodal Officer Dr B Narayanaswamy presented vote of thanks. Soil Health cards and Plant Health cards were distributed to farmers from MGMG villages. The meeting was attended by Farmers, Scientists and staff of the institute over physical as well as virtual mode.
