Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR) Aiginia, Bhubaneswar observed Swachhta Pakhwada during 16th-31st December 2020

Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar organised various activities during the Swachhta Pakhwada (16-31 Dec 2020). Dr. G.C.Acharya, Principal Scientist & Head(I/C) administered the pledge of Swachh Bharat to all the staff members on 16th December. The programme was followed by the cleanliness drive in and around CHES campus by the staff members. The residents in the adjoining areas were advised to maintain the cleanliness in their residential premises and keep the area plastic free.

Celebration of Kisan Diwas: Kisan Diwas was celebrated at Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR- Indian Institute of Horticultural Research), Aiginia, Bhubaneswar on 23rd December 2020 under Swachchta Pakhwada. Around 25 farmers from Puri, Berhampur and Khorda districts of Odisha attended the day long programme. Chief Guest of the event was Sri Jahed Mohammed, Joint Director Agriculture, (Information) and guest of honour was Sri Sidhhart Behura, Assistant Director Agriculture (information). Farmers from adopted villages were enlightened about the importance of observing the Kisan Diwas and significance of adopting advanced technologies for enhancing farmers’ income. Field visit to the experimental plots were organized for the benefit of the participating farmers. Two successful farmers were felicitated for their adoption and popularization of ICAR-IIHR technologies. The programme was coordinated by Dr. P.Srinivas with the active support of Sri S. Majhi, Sri Manoj Pattanaik and Sri Narottam Rout.

Awareness programme on Urban cleanliness in Subhas Nagar basti: Awareness on collection, disposal and utilization of household waste, personal hygiene and cleanliness was organizedthrough carrying out rally and raising the slogans for swachh bharat. A cleanliness drive was also conducted nearby areas by the CHES staff. Technical, administrative, YPs, contractual staff participated in the programme.

Organization of awareness rally and trees plantation in MGMG adopted village: Plantation programme was organized in the premises of the Government Upper Primary School, Barakera. Besides, awareness rally with villagers was organised in the village with slogans and posters on Swachh Bharat. 

Awareness programme on Urban cleanliness in Kabadiya basti: Awareness on urban cleanliness was organized through carrying out rally and raising the slogans for Swachh Bharat in the kabadiya basti adjoining the CHES campus. A cleanliness drive was also conducted nearby areas by the CHES staff. Scientific, technical, administrative, outsourcing, students, and contractual staff participated in the programme.

Debate completion: A debate completion was organised on the topic “how to sustain the Swachch Bharat movement” for all the staff members of CHES. Ten participants expressed their views on the topic. Besides, Head and other scientists addressed the gathering and put forth their views on the topic. The competition was judged by Dr. P. Srinivas and Dr Deepa Samant. The programme was coordinated by Sri S. Majhi.

Awareness programme on rural cleanliness in Balipatna area: Awareness on rural cleanlinesswas organized through carrying out rally and raising the slogans for Swachh Bharat in the village in Balipatna area. A cleanliness drive was also conducted nearby areas by the villagers and CHES staff. Scientific, technical, administrative, outsourcing, students, and contractual staff participated in the programme along with the farmers and villagers.

Guest lecture on global waste problem and its management: A guest lecture on global waste problem and its management was organised in the CHES campus, wherein Sri Narasingh Panigrahi, Director, Siddha Development Research Consultancy Pvt Ltd, Bhubaneswar delivered a lecture on the topic with power point presentation. He elaborately explained the extent of problem of global waste generation and disposal problems and the circular management approaches. Scientists of the centre alos expressed their views on waste management. The programme was coordinated by Sri S. Majhi, TO and Sri Manoj Pattanaik, TA.

Felicitation and valedictory Programme: On 31st December 2020, valedictory programme was organised in training hall. During the programme Sri S Majhi welcomed the gathering and explained about various activities undertaken during the Swachchta Pakhwada. Dr. P. Srinivas also addressed the gathering and discussed about the activities being undertaken in the campus for its overall cleanliness. The Head of the station, Dr. G.C. Acharya addressed the programmeand appreciated the efforts of the staff of the Station in their efforts and cooperation in keeping the campus clean and green. He felicitated noted environmental activist Sri Narasingh Panigrahi. He also distributed the prizes to the winners and all the participants. The programme was coordinated by Sri S. Majhi and Sri Manoj Pattanaik.

The various activities under Swachhta Pakhwada observed during 16th-31st December, 2020 was coordinated by Sri Singray Majhi, Nodal Officer, Swachh Bharat of the station with active support from Dr. P. Srinivas, Principal Scientist, Smt Annapuna Behera, Sri Manoj Pattnaik, Smt. Suchitra Behera, Sri Gobind Naik, and all other staff members, trainees, contractual and outsourcing etc of the Station.
