Central Horticultural Experiment Station, CHES, ICAR-IIHR Bhubaneswar observed Curtain Raiser of “International Year of Millets 2023” on 17th September 2021. The programme was started with the initial remarks of Dr Gobinda Ch Acharya, Head Ic of Central Horticultural Experiment Station, Bhubaneswar who highlighted the importance of the International Year of Millets and how the millets are associated with the culture of the Indian tradition. Dr P Srinivas, Principal Scientist spoke on the role of plantation and its environment relation. Dr Kundan Kishore, Principal Scientist, Dr Manas R Sahoo, Principal Scientist also spoke on the occasion. Sri Satyapriya Singh, scientist made a brief details on the use and importance of millet in our daily diet. Miss Jyotirmayee Kumari, Class teacher, Jadupur high School also spoke about the tradition of millet cultivation in the rural villages. During the programme, local millet products are distributed to the participants and one exhibition stall was arranged displaying various products of millet for the awareness among the participants. Plantation programme was carried out by the help of students and farmers. Around 70 participants attended the programme, which consists of 10th class girl students from Syed Mumtaz High School, Jadupur, Bhubaneswar; Women farmers from the adopted MGMG villages, farmers/ farm women from nearby villages and members of FPOS & progressive farmers from Andhra Pradesh. The programme was coordinated by Dr Manas R Sahoo, Dr Kundan Kishore, Sri Satyapriya Singh, Dr P Srinivas, technical staff of the centre under the supervision of Dr G C Acharya.
