Dr. (Mrs.) Meenakshi Srinivas
Dr. (Mrs.) Meenakshi Srinivas obtained her Batchelors’ and Masters’ degrees from Bangalore University, Bangalore. She did her M.Sc. in Botany and went on to do Ph.D. (Botany) with specialization in ‘Genetics & Cytogenetics’ from the same University. Her doctoral research work dealt with ‘Production, Identification and Characterization of aneuploids in Solanum viarum Dunal’ - a medicinal plant.
She joined the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, in the year 1977.
She was Acting Director, IIHR from 01.07.2008 to 07.02.2009 and currently continuing as Head, Division of Ornamental Crops. She is currently involved in plant breeding and her major research interest lies in improvement of floriculture crops.
She has developed useful hybrids in diverse ornamentals like hibiscus, bougainvillea, croton, rose and tuberose. Two of the tuberose hybrids developed by her, ‘Shringar’ and ‘Suvasini’, have been released at the State level and are popular among farmers.
