Dr. R.M. Pandey
Born at Mirzapur in U.P on 3rd January, 1934, Dr. R.M. Pandey obtained M.Sc. in Agricultural Botany in 1958 and D.Phil. in 1963 from Allahabad University. He obtained Ph.D. from USSR in 1968. He was Director, IIHR, for two terms spanning 25.11.1987 to 11.11.1988, and, from 21.03.1991 to 31.01.1994
Dr. Pandey served as Superintendent (Plantation) from 1958 to 1960 at Central Silk Farm, Dehradun, and, Lecturer in Botany at Meerut University from 1969 to 1970. He was appointed Physiologist at IARI, New Delhi, in 1970 and was then Professor of Horticulture from July 1976 to November 1978 at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnaga,r and Scientist S-3 (Horticulture) at IARI, New Delhi. Dr. Pandey published 55 research papers, 6 popular articles and one bulletin on mango. He guided 4 Ph.D. and 5 M.Sc students. Dr. Pandey carried out research on horticultural crops, mainly on mango, grape and guava. His research work included plant nutrition, use of plant growth regulators, storage and fundamental studies in mango malformation.
Dr. Pandey was Member, ISHS Working Group on Soil-less Culture, The Netherlands. He worked as the Fruit Programme Coordinator, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar.
Dr. Pandey visited USSR from 1963-69 and worked as Assistant (Tech.) at the State University, Tashkent.
