Farmers of Chhattisgarh were trained on plant architecture and canopy management in mango under high density planting system on 8th September, 2022. Dr. Kundan Kishore demonstrated various aspects of plant architecture and canopy management under high density planting system of mango. Farmers were advised to regulate the canopy of mango through annual pruning and to ensure proper management of nutrients and pests for higher fruit yield and quality. Participants were advised to adopt open centre training system in mango for efficient light interception, higher yield and better fruit quality. Mango growers were advised to suitably prune the plants after harvesting of fruits (preferably in June - July) in order to keep the orchards productive. Potential of intercrops (pineapple, dragon fruit and apple ber) in low density mango orchard through canopy regulation was also demonstrated. Dr. Deepa Samant highlighted the importance of canopy management in guava. Queries of the participants on various aspects of canopy management were addressed during the interaction. Participants expressed their satisfaction over the training program and realized the need of canopy management in mango under high density planting system. The program was coordinated by Dr. Kundan Kishore with the help of project assistants.
