National Education Day is an annual observance in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India who laid the foundation of the education system and evaluating and improving the country's current performance in the field. An occasion to remember Azad's contribution, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore observed National Education Day on 11.11.2019. It was proposed to mark the day in knowledge sharing on innovations in horticulture through showcasing of horticultural technologies with exhibition and video show about ICAR-IIHR to the students community. Dr R.Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and Head (i/c) welcomed the students and teachers of various schools of Bangalore and explained the importance of celebrations of National Education Day. A total of 520 students from different schools (National Public School, Govt PU College, HSLN English School, Jyothi Vidyalaya, Govt Pre-University college, BGS PU college and Govt High school from Ivarkandapura, Hessraghatta, Totagere and Chikkabanwara) actively participated. The programme started with ICAR-song, followed by IIHR song. Videos on about ICAR-IIHR, Success Stories of IIHR and National Horticultural Fair were shown to students. Afterwards they were taken to Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC) to show them the technological products of ICAR-IIHR. Light refreshments were served to the students with passion fruit juice, ragi biscuits and tamarind lollypops. The teachers and students expressed their happiness to see latest horticultural technologies and facilities developed by ICAR-IIHR. The Programme was coordinated by Dr V Sankar, Dr R. Senthil Kumar and Dr Achala Paripurna from the Division of Social Science and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
