ICAR-IIHR launched Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) project at Konanakere village of Kollegala taluk of Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka on 12th February, 2020. About 320 tribal farmers participated from 16 villages (different Podus), who were selected based on the survey, to uplift their livelihood security through ICAR-IIHR technologies.
The event was organized by ICAR-IIHR in collaboration with the Soliga Abhivridhi Sangha promoted by VGKK, BR Hills. This programme was inaugurated by Dr MR Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru by distributing eight varieties of different fruit crops viz., jamun, mango, guava, custard apple, papaya and 10 varieties of different vegetables Viz., chilli, tomato, bhendi, brinjal, amaranthus, French bean, dolichos, pumpkin and curry leaf. In his inaugural address, Dr MR Dinesh lauded the efforts of Soliga associations in bringing the down-trodden people towards sustainable socio-economic and livelihood activities. He also advised the beneficiaries to adopt ICAR-IIHR technologies to secure economic profitability.
This programme was also attended by many Soliga Community leaders of different villages. Amongst them, Mr. Doddaiah, Mr. Mahadeva, Mr. Rangaswamy, Mr. Muthaiah and the volunteer Dr. Achyutha Rao were the notable persons. Many Panchayath members also participated in the programme.
Dr. R Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and Head (i/c), Social Sciences and Training Division of ICAR-IIHR Spoke about extension programmes of ICAR-IIHR and advised the participants to utilize such opportunities. He also highlighted the importance of demonstrations of ICAR-IIHR technologies.
Dr. B Narayanaswamy, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer of TSP Project of IIHR, coordinated the event and briefed the gathering about importance of the TSP project, it’s modalities and implementation in entire country by ICAR-IIHR towards upliftment of tribal population.
Dr. Achyutha Rao, Mr. Doddaiah, Mr. Mahadeva, Mr. Rangaswamy and some of the beneficiaries thanked and lauded the efforts of ICAR-IIHR. Mr HS Jayantha, Ms Harshitha and Mr Sashi Kumar from the Division of Social Sciences and Training also facilitated organizing the programme.
