ICAR-IIHR in collaboration with Kerala Agricultural University, Agricultural Development and Farmers Welfare Department, Keralaand the NGO ‘Thampu’ has organized an input distribution cum training programme to the tribal farmers of Agali,Attappady blockin Palakkad District of Kerala state. The programme was conducted on 28th September 2023 at Kathir Community Hall, Palur. The event was presided over by Thampu President Shri. Rajendra Prasad and inaugurated by Agali Block Panchayat Member Smt. Karthyayani. Dr. Sumiya K.V., Programme Coordinator, KVK Palakkad welcomed the gathering. Scientists from ICAR-IIHR, Dr. Ranjitha and Dr. D. Kalaivanan, provided training on soil health management, vegetable cultivation, processing, and value addition. Before the inaugural function, Shri Raju, a honey bee entrepreneur gave hands-on training session on beekeeping to the participants. Assistant Director of Agriculture Smt. Selvi, Dr. Resmi J, Assistant Professor, Village head, Shri. Marimuthu and Shri. Ramu attended and addressed the gatherings. At the end of thetraining programme, 80 bee hive boxes with colonies, seeds of various types of vegetables, Arka Microbial Consortium and Arka Vegetable Special were distributed to tribal farmers. Around 80 tribal farmers from Thekkupana, Dhodhiyaarkatti and Dhanyam hamlets participated and benefitted in the programme. Bee hives were established in Dhanyam hamlet.
