ICAR- IIHR organized a Tree Plantation Campaign on16th July 2021 at ICAR- IIHR, Bengaluru

On the eve of 93rd ICAR’s foundation day, a Nationwide Tree Plantation Campaign and awareness programme with a theme of ‘Har Med Par Ped’ was organized at ICAR- Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru on 16th July, 2021. The event was organized as a part of our Celebration of India @75-Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.

The Director, ICAR-IIHR and all staff attended the virtual meeting organized by ICAR. At the outset tree planting programme was initiated with a brief introduction and welcome by Mrs. Jayanthi Mala, Nodal Officer, Swachtha Pakhwada & MGMG. Followed by brief remarks by the Director, Dr. B.N.S Murthy about the occasion. He has emphasized about environment protection aspect and importance of this programme that ICAR aimed to plant one million trees during the current year. 

The major emphasis in this programme is to motivate and create awareness among children and farmers to plant trees on boundaries/ bunds on and off the farmland, and in the institutional premises. The occasion was graced by the custodian farmers Mr. Siddaraju, Mr. Shankara, Mr. Laxmana, few progressive farmers from Bagepalli Taluk, Karnataka along with the school children from Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru and staff of ICAR-IIHR.

We planted the farmer’s identified varieties of jackfruit ‘Siddu’, ‘Shankara’ and Tamarind variety ‘Laxmana’ in the premises of Research Block IV, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru. Adding to the wealth of biodiversity a total of 290 plants have been planted.
