‘Honeybee Rearing and Training’ programme was organised by ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru, under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) Programme on 30-07-2020 at two separate talukas in Tumkur district in collaboration with ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hirehalli, Tumakuru. The programme was first conducted at Kadaranahalli village of Tumakuru Taluk in the morning and later in Badavanahalli village of Madhugiri Taluk of Tumakuru District in the afternoon. Tribal beneficiaries from both these places were distributed with honey bee hives for rearing. Dr P. V. R. Reddy, Principal Scientist, ICAR–IIHR, Bengaluru demonstrated the method of raising Honeybees and briefed about important information required for beekeeping in both the places. Dr. Loganandhan, N., Head, ICAR-KVK, Hirehalli, Tumakuru during his inaugural address briefed about Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and also about importance of honeybee rearing in livelihood improvement. Mr. Approva Honeybee expert, Bangalore explained about the production technology of bee keeping and importance in future for livelihood development. At the end of the programme, ICAR-IIHR Vegetable Seed Kit (Arka Varieties) which aimed to increase the nutritional intake through kitchen gardening were distributed to participants. This programme was co-ordinated by Dr D. Sreenivasa Murthy, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer, TSP programme, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, Sri K. N. Jagadish, Subject Matter Specialist (Agril.Extension), KVK, Hirehalli, Tumakuru and Dr. Loganandhan, N., Head, ICAR-KVK, Hirehalli, Tumakuru. More than 50 tribal beneficiaries from both Tumakuru and Madhugiri attended the programme.
