KVK(ICAR-IIHR), Hirehalli Tumakuru organized a training program on “Dryland Horticulture” on 4th July, 2020 at Bukkapattana, Sira with an aim to explore the potential of fruit crop cultivation through dryland horticulture with inputs and optimized utilization of production inputs for higher profitability. Mr. Raghu Rao, President of State Level Sandal Wood Association in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of dryland Horticulture and Sandal Wood. Dr. N. Loganandhan, Head, KVK, Hirehalli Tumakuru highlighted the significance of low input fruit production for environmental sustainability and highlighted the activities of the station for the development of Horticulture. Mr. Purshotham a progressive farmer of Chikkanayakahalli highlighted the advantages of dryland Horticulture and multilayer farming in horticulture.
In the technical session, Mr. Prasanth JM shared detailed information on status and scope of dryland Horticulture and government initiatives in its promotion. Mr.Ramesh P R. shared information of importance of soil for efficient management of water, nutrient. Mr. K.N. Jagadish highlighted the inputs available at KVK Hirehalli & whereas suitability of fruit crops for dryland horticulture. Through this training program participants got acquainted with various ways of dryland horticulture. More than 75 farmers from different parts districts of Tumakuru namely CNhalli,Gubbi,Sira,Tumakuru, Madhugiri and Kunigal participated in the training program. The program was coordinated by Dr.Loganandhan & K.N.Jagadish KVK, Hirehalli Tumakuru.
