The programme on ‘Distribution of sheep to SC farmers and farm women’ was organized at Suddegunte village of Madhugiri and Kurubanahalli gate of Pavagada, Tumakuru district on 5th Jan 2024. This programme was organized under the SCSP project of ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research and ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hirehalli, Tumakuru. About 51 beneficiaries from Madhugiri taluk and 107 beneficiaries from Pavagada taluk were provided each with two male (Rams) sheep, under the project. Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-IIHR inaugurated and presided over the function. Dr. Nagesh Kumar, Deputy Director, Sheep Board provided the valuable guidance in rearing the animals. Dr S.K. Sharma, Deputy Director, NHB and Dr R. Senthil Kumar, Nodal Officer, SCSP also graced the occasions as chief guests. Dr. Loganandhan, Head, KVK, briefed about the genesis of this programme. Dr. Senthil Kumar requested the farmers to take benefit of technologies of ICAR-IIHR by taking part in National Horticulture Fair 2024. The Director, ICAR-IIHR, in his presidential speech, urged the beneficiaries to consider this as seed money and the herd can be improved gradually so that the sustainable livelihood of the SC farmers and farm women are ensured. Earlier in the programme, vaccination and deworming medicines were provided to the animals. The staff of KVK and ICAR-IIHR and Mr. Thimmanna, local organizer coordinated the event successfully.
