A special ten-day training programme on “Protected cultivation of vegetables and flowers” was organized for the NHB beneficiaries from Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana states, at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR), Bangalore from November 19-28, 2019. The objective of the programme was to develop entrepreneurship in protected cultivation of vegetables and flowers by imparting hands-on training and class room lectures, so that the beneficiaries may take up their own entrepreneurship activity for improving their profitability and productivity. The programme was started with welcome address by Dr R.Venkattakumar Head (I/c) and Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, who emphasized the objective of the training. Dr.R.Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist outlined farmer-friendly technologies of ICAR-IIHR and Dr.V.Sankar, Principal Scientist briefed about 10-day schedule of the training. In the subsequent days, participants were exposed all aspects of protected cultivation of vegetables and flowers by the experts from ICAR-IIHR, NHB, Bank of Baroda in the form of lectures. For two days, the farmers were taken to Indo-Isreal project implementation unit at Thali and successful farmers fields in and around IIHR and Hosur. At the end of their training, Dr. R.Venkattakumar Principal Scientist and Head (i/c), Division of Social Sciences and Training distributed certificates to the trainees. The trainees were very much satisfied with the programme and opined that have got exposed to various aspects of protected cultivation and this will be helpful for their improvement in Entrepreneurship. This training programme was coordinated by Dr.V.Sankar, Principal Scientist and Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
