There is a considerable confusion regarding cultivar nomenclature. Many similar cultivars grown in different areas are known by different names.1 The DNA fingerprints generated by SSR markers would help in overcoming this problem. The sixty-four SSR primer sets used in this study showed a probability of identity) of 7.05x10-58 (probability of having similar profile in by two genotypes) indicating their usefulness in fingerprinting. It will help in identifying the variety/genotype/cultivar at seedling stage.
